What happened?

Imagine you've just finished a nice meal with friends in Antalya. The food was good, the conversation was flowing, and there's only one thing left to do before heading back to your hotel: Pay the bill. The waiter brings it over. But according to the traveler who reported this experience, something on the bill immediately looked unusual. The printed total had been crossed out. In its place, a new amount had been written by hand: 4,980 TL. That's usually the moment when dinner ends and an unexpected accounting session begins. The traveler asked how the restaurant had reached 4,980 TL. According to their account, they were told that the total included a 750 TL service charge. There was also a handwritten 220 TL charge for drinks. But then the traveler noticed something else. They claimed that the 220 TL drinks charge was already included on the original printed bill. In other words, from their perspective, the same charge appeared to have been added again. So out came the calculator. According to the traveler, the numbers were: 3,180 TL + 750 TL + 220 TL = 4,150 TL But the handwritten total in front of them was: 4,980 TL That still left: 830 TL that the traveler could not account for. Math can be surprisingly unforgiving. Especially when the bill arrives. The traveler says they pointed out the difference to the waiter. According to their account, the handwritten total was then changed again and another total was written on the bill. That made them even more suspicious about what they were being charged. But the story didn't end when they left the restaurant. Back at the hotel, they asked reception to call the restaurant The traveler says the 750 TL service charge was still bothering them after returning to their hotel. They wanted to know whether this was actually a normal charge at the restaurant. So they asked the hotel reception staff to call the restaurant. According to the traveler, during that phone conversation the restaurant staff reportedly said that they did not charge customers a service fee. That left the traveler questioning why a 750 TL service charge had apparently been added to their bill. So this wasn't simply a complaint that: “The restaurant was expensive.” The traveler described a much more specific problem: The printed total was crossed out, a new total was written by hand, a service charge was allegedly added, and the individual amounts did not appear to match the final total. Interestingly, the traveler also said they were happy with the food itself. The problem that evening wasn't on the plate. It was on the piece of paper next to it. This remains the traveler's account of what happened. TurkTravelRadar has not independently reviewed the original bill, payment records, or the restaurant's accounting records, so we cannot independently determine which amount was correct.
