The "Mandatory Scarf" Shop Trap: How Street Vendors Scam Female Tourists Outside Istanbul Mosques

What happened?

I was walking towards the Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque) yesterday. Right before the main courtyard entrance, a street vendor approached me urgently. He pointed at my jeans and short-sleeve shirt, saying, 'Sister, stop! You cannot enter without a long skirt and a headscarf. Government rules just changed today; it is mandatory to buy this special tourist cover set for 700 TL ($20).' I panicked, thinking I would miss seeing the inside, so I paid him cash. When I finally reached the actual entrance gate, I saw that the mosque security was providing clean, sanitized headscarves and long robes to all female tourists completely for free. The vendor completely lied to steal my money.

What should I do?
