The Fish Weight Trap: How Seafood Restaurants in Kumkapı & Galata Double Your Bill

What happened?

Last night, my friends and I went to a seafood restaurant near the Galata Bridge. We picked a fresh Sea Bass (Levrek) from the ice display. The waiter told us the price was 600 TL. We thought it was a great deal for a whole fish and ordered it. However, when the bill arrived, the fish was listed as 2400 TL! I called the manager immediately. He pointed at the tiny text on the display menu and said: 'Sir, 600 TL is the price per 100 grams, not for the whole fish. Your fish was 400 grams.' They never weighed it in front of us or mentioned this before cooking it. We felt completely tricked.

What should I do?

Request a priced menu and confirm the weight, extras, water, appetizers and service charge before ordering.
