What happened?

You have just landed in Antalya. You have stepped off the plane, luggage in hand. Your destination is Kaleiçi.You walk out of the airport, head toward a taxi, and ask how much it will cost.According to the tourist's account, the figure given to them was:70 euros. For a first-time tourist, there is a slight problem here: you do not know how much the distance normally costs. Is 70 euros actually normal?Instead of accepting the price, the tourist asks for the taximeter to be turned on.The driver turns on the taximeter, and the journey toward Kaleiçi begins.Luggage in the back, the Antalya scenery outside, and the taximeter in the front playing its own little thriller movie. When they arrive in Kaleiçi, the figure on the screen is:550 TL.In other words, instead of the 70-euro fixed price demanded before the journey, the fare reported by the tourist when the taximeter was used came to 550 TL.The exact point the tourist draws attention to is this massive discrepancy.Rather than calculating an exact TL equivalent based on the exchange rate of that day and inventing a new figure, we record the two amounts exactly as reported by the traveler:Initially demanded: 70 EURShown on the taximeter: 550 TRYThe tourist states that they paid the 550 TL displayed on the taximeter at the end of the ride.In short, the first small victory of the Antalya vacation came before even arriving in Kaleiçi:“Could you please turn on the taximeter?”Sometimes, a few words can really make a difference. This incident alone does not imply that all taxis at Antalya Airport behave the same way. What we are recording here is solely the price experience that one tourist reported experiencing. However, if independent reports come from other tourists at the same spot stating, "I was first given a fixed price in euros, but a significantly different amount appeared when the taximeter was turned on," Radar can link them together. This is a sample tourist report prepared from an experience shared by a tourist in the past. The narrated event is based on the traveler's own statement and has not been independently verified by TurkTravelRadar. This incident reported in the past does not mean that the same situation continues today. If you have experienced a similar incident, you can share it on Radar. Sharing your experience can help tourists who will use the same route after you better understand what they might encounter. If possible, attach a photo of the taximeter, receipt, card payment document, vehicle/license plate information, journey screenshot, or a photo of the price shown to you by the driver to your report. Such evidence is highly useful in evaluating the accuracy of the incident and matching similar reports with one another. An incident experienced by one tourist is a single report. It becomes meaningful for Radar when the same incident starts coming repeatedly from different tourists. If you would like to translate additional reports covering hotel overcharges, currency exchange issues, or tour agency experiences, please let me know.
