The 'Free Shot' Trap in Antalya Kaleiçi

What happened?

A promoter outside a bar in Kaleiçi invited my friend and me inside, promising a 'free welcome shot.' We went in, had the shots, and ordered two local beers. When the bill came, we were shocked: 2400 TL ($70)! They charged us a massive 'service fee' and 'live music cover charge,' which was never mentioned. When we argued, the bouncers blocked the exit. We had no choice but to pay by card. (The Takeaway): Never enter a bar based on street promoters promising free drinks. Always ask for a physical menu with prices before ordering anything, even a beer. If they don't have a menu with prices, leave immediately.

What should I do?

Request a priced menu and confirm the weight, extras, water, appetizers and service charge before ordering.

Warning signs to check

  • No printed or clearly priced menu
