Before and during your trip

Money and card safety

Check the amount and currency before approving a card payment. Prefer ATMs attached to established banks, keep receipts for larger purchases and understand any currency-conversion offer before accepting it.

Public transport

Major cities use combinations of metro, tram, bus, ferry and suburban rail. Routes, schedules and fares change, so check the local operator before traveling. Istanbul uses Istanbulkart across much of its network.

Mobile internet

Compare international roaming, local SIM and eSIM options before arrival. Passport registration may be required for a local SIM. Airport packages may be convenient but are not always the cheapest.

Health and insurance

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Keep policy details and important medical information available offline. For urgent situations call 112; charges for treatment or transport may depend on the circumstances and your coverage.

Respectful travel

Follow posted rules at museums, archaeological sites and active places of worship. Dress appropriately where requested, avoid interrupting worship and ask permission before photographing people.
