A visitor to Süleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul shared an experience involving the mosque’s toilet facilities on Tripadvisor. In a review published in May 2026, the visitor said they were asked to pay 10 Turkish lira to use the toilet. They also criticized the condition of the facilities and the explanation they received about the charge. This is one visitor’s personal account. The circumstances surrounding the fee and the details of the service have not been independently verified. Therefore, this single review is not enough to establish that toilet facilities at the mosque are generally problematic. What about Europe? Paid public toilets are also found in parts of Europe. However, charges vary depending on the city, location and type of facility. Amsterdam and some railway stations in the Netherlands: According to Dutch railway operator NS, toilets at some major stations charge €1.10 per visit, equivalent to approximately TRY 61. At some medium-sized and smaller stations, the fee is €0.50, or around TRY 28. Paris: Around 400 municipal street toilets across the city are free to use. However, the historic, privately operated toilet facility at Place de la Madeleine charges €2 for entry, equivalent to approximately TRY 110. The important distinction is that paid toilets exist in parts of Europe, but this does not automatically make every fee or service condition reasonable. Equally, a single review about Süleymaniye Mosque does not prove that a widespread problem exists.
