The Tomb of Prophet Noah is located in the basement of the historical mosque bearing his name in the center of Cizre, Şırnak. Holding immense significance in Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism), Prophet Noah is revered as the second father of humanity, and his final resting place stands as one of the oldest and most sacred pilgrimage sites in the world. • History and Significance: Cizre is historically considered one of the first towns founded after the Great Flood. Ancient scholars and travelers, including the famous historian Al-Masudi and Ottoman traveler Evliya Çelebi, have documented this site as Noah's burial place. The complex originally served as a synagogue, was later converted into a church, and finally transformed into a mosque in 639 A.D. following the Islamic conquest of the region. • Architectural Features: The shrine is situated in the crypt or lower level of the mosque, accessible via a small flight of stairs that leads into a mystical and spiritual atmosphere. Inside, there is an unusually long sarcophagus, measuring approximately 9 meters (30 feet) in length, which traditionally symbolizes the legendary stature of ancient prophets. The tomb is covered with a traditional green cloth inscribed with Quranic verses.
