Submit a Radar report →High in Rize’s Çamlıhemşin district, Ayder Plateau brings together green mountain slopes, spruce and beech forests, and the traditional wooden houses of Turkey’s eastern Black Sea region. Sitting at around 1,350 metres above sea level, it is one of the area’s best-known mountain destinations. Gelin Tülü Waterfall is a highlight, its thin streams tumbling down a forested hillside. Take time to enjoy the scenery, stop for tea and explore the settlement on foot. Ayder is also known for its thermal springs, while accommodation ranges from family guesthouses to hotels and wooden mountain lodges. This is a popular tourism centre, so expect a developed mountain resort rather than an isolated village. It also serves as a starting point for approaches to the Kaçkar Mountains from the north. Bring layers and a waterproof jacket, and wear shoes with good grip if you plan to explore beyond the main road.
