About this place
Oylum Höyük is an important archaeological site approximately 7 kilometres east-southeast of central Kilis, south of the Kilis–Gaziantep road. Among the largest settlement mounds in southeastern Türkiye, it consists of two connected rises overlooking the Kilis Plain. With a settlement history dating back to the Late Chalcolithic period, Oylum Höyük occupies a crossroads between Anatolia, Syria and Mesopotamia. Its position on the northwestern edge of the Fertile Crescent makes it significant for understanding ancient settlements and cultural connections. For travellers exploring historic places in Kilis, the mound offers an introduction to the region’s archaeological heritage and its long history of human settlement.
