About this place
Kilis Mevlevi Lodge is a historic religious building in the Tekye neighbourhood, near Cumhuriyet Square in central Kilis. Believed to have been built between 1535 and 1553 during Canbolat Pasha’s governorship, it is also known locally as “Ak Tekke” or “Ak Tekye,” referring to its white and yellowish dressed stone. The surviving semahane, originally used for Mevlevi ceremonies, features a square plan, a tall central dome and smaller corner domes. Decorative stonework, muqarnas details and an ornate mihrab distinguish its interior. Now used as a mosque, Kilis Mevlevi Lodge is a significant stop for visitors exploring the city’s religious architecture and Mevlevi heritage.
