Adıyaman is best known as the gateway to Mount Nemrut, where monumental statues and royal sanctuaries overlook the surrounding mountains. The province also contains ancient settlements, bridges and landscapes connected with the Kingdom of Commagene.
Late spring through early autumn is the practical season for Mount Nemrut. Snow and winter road conditions can restrict access to the summit.
Minibuses and taxis serve the city, but reaching Mount Nemrut and the scattered Commagene sites is easiest with a tour, private driver or rental car.
