If you have three days in Istanbul, you can see the main sights without rushing too much. The best plan is to explore the city by area instead of spending hours going from one side to another. Day 1: Old Istanbul Start in Sultanahmet. Visit Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Basilica Cistern. They are all close to each other, so you can walk between them. After lunch, walk through the Grand Bazaar. It’s a good place to look for souvenirs, Turkish lamps, carpets and spices. In the evening, head towards Eminönü and try a fish sandwich or some Turkish street food. Day 2: Bosphorus, Galata and Karaköy Start the day with a Bosphorus ferry ride. It’s one of the easiest ways to see Istanbul from a different angle, and you don’t need to book an expensive private tour. After the ferry, explore Galata and Karaköy. Walk through the narrow streets, stop for Turkish coffee and head up to Galata Tower for the city views. In the evening, have dinner around Karaköy or Istiklal Street. If you still have energy, walk around Taksim and Cihangir. Day 3: Asian Side and Local Istanbul Take the ferry to Kadıköy and spend the morning exploring the market and nearby streets. Try a Turkish breakfast, grab a coffee and walk around Moda. Later, return to the European side or visit Üsküdar for another Bosphorus view. Watching the sunset from the waterfront is a great way to finish your trip. Quick Tips Three days is enough for a first visit, but don’t try to see everything. Wear comfortable shoes, use public transport and leave some free time for food and unexpected stops. Istanbul is better when you don’t plan every minute.
