A courtyard behind an old wooden door. A beachfront hotel with the mountains in the distance. A resort where lunch, swimming and the evening’s entertainment are all a short walk from your room.
All three can be part of an Antalya holiday. They just won’t give you the same holiday.
Before comparing hotels, think about what you want to do after breakfast. Walk through the old town? Head to the beach, then find somewhere different for dinner? Or settle into a resort and spend most of your time enjoying its facilities?
That answer will help you choose between Kaleiçi, Konyaaltı and Lara–Kundu.
Which part of Antalya suits your trip?
| What you want | Where to start looking |
|---|---|
| Historic streets, small hotels and evenings exploring on foot | Kaleiçi |
| Beach time alongside an independent city break | Konyaaltı |
| A holiday built around your hotel’s pools, restaurants and facilities | Suitable resorts along Lara–Kundu |
| Different restaurants and a flexible daily routine | Kaleiçi or Konyaaltı |
| A family resort with meals and activities in one place | Compare individual hotel facilities, not just the neighbourhood |
One detail matters throughout: check the hotel’s exact location. A broad area name on a booking page tells you much less than a map and a few specific questions.
Kaleiçi: For travellers who want the old town outside their door
Kaleiçi is Antalya’s historic centre, with narrow streets, traditional houses and routes leading down towards the old harbour. Some historic buildings now accommodate small hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and cafés.
Its appeal is easy to understand. You can step outside and begin exploring straight away, return to your room between outings, then head out again for dinner without making every evening a transport exercise.
If you are visiting Antalya for a short city break and want history, restaurants and evening walks, Kaleiçi is a useful starting point.
What to check before booking in Kaleiçi
A beautiful historic building may have a different layout from a modern hotel. Ask which floor your room is on, whether there is a lift and how you will reach the entrance with your luggage.
Check the street as well as the property. Being close to bars and restaurants may suit your plans perfectly, but light sleepers should read recent comments about noise and ask about the room’s position.
Before booking, find out:
- Can a taxi or transfer vehicle reach the entrance?
- If not, where is the nearest drop-off point?
- Are there stairs between the entrance and your room?
- Is parking available, and where?
- Does your selected room category match the photographs you like?
Kaleiçi makes particular sense when exploring the old town is central to your trip. If your main priority is spending every day on a long beach, compare other areas before deciding.
Konyaaltı: For a beach holiday with room to explore
Konyaaltı deserves a look if you want beach time without organising your entire holiday around a resort.
You might spend the morning by the sea, go sightseeing later and choose a different restaurant for dinner. That flexibility can suit couples, friends and families who enjoy making their own plans.
Know what to expect from the shoreline: Konyaaltı Beach is predominantly pebbly, although its surface varies along the coast. If you specifically want a sandy beach, check the stretch you intend to use rather than relying on a general photograph of Antalya.
“In Konyaaltı” does not necessarily mean “beside the beach”
Look up the walking route from the hotel to a beach entrance. Check road crossings, the actual distance and whether the same walk will still feel convenient after a hot afternoon.
A sea-view room and easy beach access are separate features. Verify both if they matter to you.
For apartments and self-catering stays, check what “kitchen facilities” actually includes. A fridge and kettle offer a different level of independence from a properly equipped kitchenette.
Choose Konyaaltı for the daily routine you want, then choose the hotel that makes that routine practical.
Lara and Kundu: Look beyond the name on the listing
“Lara” can cover very different hotel settings.
A property in the urban Lara area, one near the cliff-lined coast and a resort towards Kundu may offer quite different surroundings and access to the sea. Do not assume that every hotel described as being in Lara opens directly onto a sandy beach.
Ask how beach access works:
- Is there a beach immediately outside the property?
- Is access via steps or a swimming platform?
- Is the beach reached by a shuttle?
- Are beach facilities included in your room rate?
If you expect to spend much of your holiday at the hotel, the resort’s facilities and package may matter more than proximity to the old town.
Read the all-inclusive details carefully
Compare what is included, rather than the package name alone.
Check restaurant arrangements, drinks, opening hours, children’s facilities and any activities that cost extra. If you are travelling outside the main summer period, confirm which outdoor facilities will be operating on your dates.
The pool in a photograph is not a promise that it will be open, heated or suitable for your particular needs.
Where should families stay?
There is no single best area for every family.
A resort may simplify meals, swimming and activities. An apartment may work better if you need a kitchen and prefer your own schedule. A small hotel in Kaleiçi may suit a family focused on sightseeing, provided access and room arrangements work for everyone.
Think through an ordinary day:
How will you reach breakfast, the beach and your room for an afternoon rest?
Then check the details that affect your family: room layout, cots, lifts, walking distances, pool arrangements and the age requirements for organised activities.
Consider your airport arrival before choosing a hotel
Your arrival time can change how convenient a location feels.
Antalya Airport has public transport connections, but the right option depends on your terminal, arrival time and accommodation. Check the route to the hotel itself, including any final walk with luggage.
If you book a private transfer, use the property’s full address. For a Kaleiçi hotel, confirm the drop-off point with the hotel in advance.
A late arrival is also a good reason to check reception hours and the procedure if your flight is delayed.

Do you need a rental car?
Start with your itinerary.
For an old-town break with a few organised excursions, compare the cost and convenience of public transport, transfers and tours before hiring a car for the whole stay.
If you want to visit ancient sites and coastal areas on your own schedule, a rental car may give you more flexibility. Check parking at your accommodation before booking it.
Also look carefully at where a tour collects passengers. “Hotel pickup” does not automatically mean every hotel across Antalya province is covered. Read the pickup area and meeting instructions for the package you choose.
Compare the total cost of your stay
The lowest room price may come with costs that another rate already includes.
Compare the same dates, number of guests and room conditions, then check:
- Breakfast and other meals
- Parking
- Beach facilities or beach transport
- Airport and daily transport
- Cancellation conditions
- Any charges payable at the property
Avoid comparing a non-refundable room with a flexible booking purely on price. The difference may be worth paying if your plans are uncertain.

So, where should you stay?
Start with Kaleiçi if you want historic streets, small hotels and evenings exploring the old town.
Look at Konyaaltı if you want to combine the beach with an independent city stay.
Compare Lara–Kundu resorts if your ideal holiday revolves around the hotel’s facilities, meals and beach arrangements.
Before you book, picture your first full day. Where will you have breakfast? How will you reach the sea? What will you do in the afternoon, and where will you eat that evening?
When those plans fit the location comfortably, you are much closer to choosing the right hotel.
