What Should You Do on Your First Day in Antalya?

You’ve just stepped off the plane. Your suitcase suddenly feels twice as heavy, the weather is hotter than expected, and there’s one thought in your head:

“When do I get to see the sea?”

First, go to your hotel.

I know. Not exactly the exciting answer you were hoping for. But after a long flight or bus journey, trying to explore Antalya with a suitcase in tow can turn your first holiday day into an endurance test.

Drop your bags, take a shower, charge your phone. Then sort out the small things that will make tomorrow easier: make sure your mobile data works, open your map, and figure out how you’ll get around. But there’s another small problem to solve before you start sightseeing: figure out where you actually are.

Don’t try to understand the whole city on your first afternoon. Walk around your hotel for 15 or 20 minutes. Find the nearest supermarket, ATM, pharmacy and the easiest route towards the coast. Tomorrow, you’ll know where everything is instead of standing on a corner staring at Google Maps like it personally betrayed you.

Then eat something.

This is not the evening to search for “the best restaurant in Antalya” and travel 45 minutes across the city for dinner. Your hungry self will consider almost any restaurant nearby a five-star discovery.

And then, finally, go see the sea.

You don’t need a three-hour beach mission. Find somewhere nearby, sit down, take a swim or simply look at the Mediterranean for a while. In summer, take the heat seriously. Antalya’s official climate statistics put the average high around 34°C in July and August.

If you still have energy in the evening, keep walking. If you don’t, go back to the hotel.
