Places to Visit in Yalova: From the Waterfront to the Forest
Discover the ultimate travel guide to Yalova, covering top attractions from the historic Moving Kiosk and Termal hot springs to scenic waterfalls, and expert tips on how to plan your day trip.

You can begin a day in Yalova beside the sea and finish it among the trees. The waves you hear during a morning walk along the shore may give way to the sound of water running between rocks in the afternoon.
Just resist the temptation to fit every stop into one day. Standing beside the Walking Pavilion, following a shaded path through Termal or waiting for a bird to move at Hersek Lagoon all deserve a little time.
If you’re wondering where to go in Yalova, start with the kind of day you want. Historic buildings, woodland walks and time beside the water each suggest a different route.
The Walking Pavilion: A Story Measured in Metres
For a first visit to Yalova, the Walking Pavilion is a good place to begin.
Known locally as Yürüyen Köşk, this waterfront building shares its story with the plane tree beside it. In 1930, Atatürk instructed that the pavilion be moved to protect a branch reaching towards the structure. The building was shifted approximately 4.8 metres along rails.
When you arrive, take a moment before reaching for your camera. Look at the tree trunk, then at the size of the pavilion. Consider what moving that entire building involved.
A distance that sounds modest on paper becomes much more striking when the structure is standing in front of you.
Afterwards, allow time for a walk beside the water. If the wind is brisk, you may prefer to keep moving rather than sit down. Let the weather decide how long you linger.
Termal: An Afternoon Beneath the Trees
Termal is known for its hot springs, but you don’t have to visit a bathing facility to enjoy the area. The grounds around the springs also offer options for a gentle walk.
Look up occasionally as you go. Light passes through gaps in the branches and falls across the paths. Depending on the season, the canopy may be dense and green or thinner, with more sky showing through.
If historic buildings interest you, include the Termal Atatürk Pavilion. Built in 1929, it is a separate building from the Walking Pavilion on the coast. Check visiting hours for each before arranging your day.
Leave room for lunch and a rest, too. Termal is easier to enjoy when every spare minute hasn’t been assigned to another stop.
Sudüşen Waterfall: Extend Your Termal Visit Into Nature
If you’re exploring Termal and the Üvezpınar area, Sudüşen Waterfall is another option for spending time outdoors. Access can be planned via Üvezpınar.
It’s easy to focus entirely on reaching a waterfall. But the changing ground beneath your feet, glimpses of water through the trees and the sound ahead are part of the outing.
Water levels vary with rainfall and the season. Rather than expecting the exact scene you saw in a photograph, take a little time to notice what’s there on the day.
Check current road and walking conditions before setting out. Shoes with a good grip help on damp ground, and there’s no need to leave a secure spot just to get a closer photograph.
Erikli Twin Waterfalls: Make Time for the Walk
The Erikli Twin Waterfalls, in the Teşvikiye area, are an option for visitors who want a day centred on walking in the forest.
Allow time for the whole outing: the walk in, pauses along the way and the return journey.
Roots crossing the path, moss on stones, leaves darkened by water—the details continue well below eye level. Slowing down gives you a chance to see them while watching your footing.
It’s better to make Erikli the main outing of the day than squeeze it between several other visits. Bring water, check the weather and leave enough daylight for the return.
Karaca Arboretum: Stop and Look Closely
Founded by Hayrettin Karaca, Karaca Arboretum brings together plants from different parts of the world. Located along the Yalova–Termal road, it is particularly appealing if you enjoy looking closely at trees and plants.
Don’t search only for flowers. Compare the patterns in the bark, the edges of leaves and the way branches grow. Even two neighbouring trees can have remarkably different trunks.
If you’re taking photographs, try moving beyond views of whole trees. A single leaf, a textured patch of bark or a small branch catching the light may hold your attention for longer.
Check current visiting arrangements before you go. Opening days, hours and any appointment requirements may determine where this stop fits into your plans.
Hersek Lagoon: A Quiet Stop in Altınova
Hersek Lagoon in Altınova is a wetland where visitors can spend time watching birds. Its position along a migration route means the species and level of activity change with the seasons.
At first, you may see only a few small shapes on the water. Wait a while. One lowers its head to feed; another moves along the shore. A handful of birds lifts away from a distant group.
Binoculars make those movements easier to follow, but you don’t need to know the birds’ names to enjoy watching them. Start with where they feed, how they move and how close they stay to one another.
Avoid treating the lagoon as a hurried stop. A little quiet time in the observation area gives you a better chance to notice what’s happening.
How to Plan Your First Visit
For a day trip, consider combining the Walking Pavilion and the Termal area. Check visiting hours and leave space between them for food and a walk. Add Karaca Arboretum only if its visiting arrangements and your available time allow.
If you want a woodland outing, choose either Erikli or Sudüşen as your main destination. Avoid committing to a packed afternoon before you know how long the walk will take.
Hersek Lagoon fits more naturally into a visit focused on the Altınova side of Yalova. That way, you spend less of your day travelling back and forth between different areas.
By evening, you may remember how long you stayed somewhere more clearly than how many places you visited: a few extra minutes beside the plane tree, or the moment you stopped talking on the way to a waterfall and heard the water ahead.
Leave a little space in the day for those moments.
