If you have explored Rize from the waterfront, take a look from Isırlık, too. The city stretches along the coast below, while the Black Sea opens towards the horizon. Turn around, and green hillsides fill the scene. Finding such a different perspective after a short journey from the centre is one of Isırlık’s nicest surprises.
Isırlık Nature Park is a recreation area in Rize’s central district, reached via the Ekmekçiler neighbourhood. It makes a lovely stop for anyone who wants a walk, a seat with a view and some time outdoors without taking a long trip into the highlands.
The Pleasure of Seeing Rize from Above
The view draws your attention first. Buildings, roads and the coastline lie below, with the sea stretching beyond them. Places you encounter separately while walking through the city begin to connect when seen from this height.
The weather changes the picture. Clear skies reveal more distant scenery, while clouds and mist conceal some hillsides and reveal others. The light over the sea keeps shifting, too. Stay a while, and the blue you saw when you arrived may take on a different shade.
Give yourself more time than it takes to take a photograph. Finding somewhere to sit and looking around without rushing can become the best part of the visit.
A Gentle Walk Around the Pond
The pond area is a pleasant place to combine walking with short breaks. Reflections on the water, greenery along its edges and colours changing with the weather draw your attention away from the distant sea and towards smaller details nearby.
You do not need an ambitious walking plan to enjoy Isırlık. Wander for a while, sit down, then carry on when you feel like it. That flexibility makes it an easy addition to a day spent exploring Rize.
After rain, the scent of damp earth becomes more noticeable. In autumn, changing foliage gives the pond’s surroundings another character—a good reason to return in a different season.
Look Up: Birds Pass This Way, Too
One of Isırlık’s distinctive features is its bird observation tower. Its elevated position provides views across the surrounding landscape and a place to watch birds during migration.
Following a bird across the sky changes the way you look at the scenery. A moment earlier, your attention was on the sea and mountains; now you are searching for movement overhead. Binoculars offer a closer look at birds that would otherwise remain distant silhouettes.
Bird activity varies with the season, weather and conditions on the day. Alongside the picnic and walking areas, leave a little time for watching the sky.
A Break That Lasts a Little Longer
The park has picnic areas and a social facility. After walking, you can sit down for something to eat, enjoy tea with a view or spend time with your family.
For visitors with children, getting outdoors without a lengthy drive is a welcome advantage. Bear in mind that slopes and surfaces vary around the park, so different sections may require different levels of effort.
Leave some breathing room in your plans. A short walk can turn into a longer break when the view gives you another reason to stay seated.
