Is This Really Düzce? Discover Pürenli Plateau’s Pond and Wooden Houses

WhatsApp

Located in the Gölyaka district of Düzce at an altitude of 1,400 meters, Pürenli Plateau is a picturesque escape famous for its central pond, lush green meadows, and traditional wooden highland houses.

A small pond, open grassland and wooden highland houses… Look at photographs of Pürenli Plateau, and your eyes move from the houses to the water, then towards the landscape beyond. Before long, a question follows: what would it be like to spend a morning here?

Located in Düzce’s Gölyaka district, Pürenli attracts visitors for camping, walking and a few hours in the highlands. Its appeal lies in the simplicity of the setting. The small pond and scattered houses give the grassy landscape a scene worth lingering over.

Where Is Pürenli Plateau?

Pürenli Plateau lies approximately 28 kilometres from central Düzce, within Gölyaka district, at an elevation of around 1,400 metres.

Routes towards the plateau lead through the Efteni Lake or Güzeldere Waterfall areas. However, a short distance on the map does not guarantee a quick or straightforward drive. Check your chosen route, the condition of the final approach and its suitability for your vehicle before setting out.

After rain, road conditions may matter more to your plans than the distance alone.

Why Does the Small Pond Draw So Much Attention?

Pürenli’s pond is modest in size. That scale is part of its charm: the water, surrounding grassland and highland houses can sit within the same view, making the landscape feel close and approachable.

When the surface is still, reflections may become part of the scene. A breeze changes the water and, with it, the composition. For photographers, waiting can be rewarding as light and weather alter the appearance of this small corner of the plateau.

Watch your footing around the shoreline. There is no need to approach the water’s edge too closely to find a pleasing view.

A Highland Landscape with Wooden Houses

The wooden houses are a familiar feature of Pürenli’s photographs. They bring signs of everyday life into the open landscape. Windows, roofs and doors give your eyes small, recognisable details to settle on.

Remember that these buildings may be private homes. Respect the houses and the people who use them. Avoid entering gardens, approaching windows or interrupting daily life for a photograph.

A little consideration allows you to explore while respecting the place as someone else’s home.

Can You Camp at Pürenli Plateau?

Pürenli is visited for tent camping, nature walks and photography, but a camping trip needs more preparation than choosing a scenic spot.

Before travelling, confirm whether camping is permitted on your dates, where tents may be pitched and which facilities are available. Do not assume you will find toilets, drinking water, electricity or somewhere to buy food.

At approximately 1,400 metres, prepare for overnight conditions as well as daytime temperatures. Check the forecast and bring an appropriate sleeping bag, an insulating mat and equipment suited to rain. Follow current rules on lighting fires.

What Can Day Visitors Do?

You do not need to stay overnight to enjoy Pürenli. A walk, time beside the pond and a break with food you have brought can make a satisfying day out.

Before adding several plateaus to the same itinerary, account for driving time. Leave enough room in your schedule to arrive without immediately thinking about when you must leave.

Take all your rubbish away, including anything left beside the pond or where you stop to eat. Before heading back, look once more at the houses and the small stretch of water—the landscape that made you curious enough to come.
