How Many Days Do You Need in Antalya?
Three days are enough for Antalya’s old town, beaches and main city sights, but five to seven days give you time for ancient cities and the coast. Use this practical guide to choose the right trip length.
September 23, 2026
For most first-time visitors, four to five days in Antalya is the sweet spot. That gives you enough time to explore Kaleiçi, spend a proper day by the Mediterranean, see the Düden Waterfalls and take at least one trip to an ancient city without turning the holiday into a race.
But there is an important catch: when people say “Antalya,” they may mean the city or the entire province. Antalya Province stretches across a huge section of Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast. Kaş, Kemer, Side and Alanya all belong to Antalya, but they are separate destinations rather than nearby city neighborhoods.
So the honest answer depends on the Antalya you want to see:
2 days: A quick city break
3 days: The essential Antalya experience
4–5 days: Best for most first-time visitors
7 days: City, beaches and several day trips
10–14 days: A wider Antalya coast road trip
Here is how each option actually feels once travel time, summer heat and the size of the region are taken into account.
Is Two Days in Antalya Enough?
Two days are enough to enjoy Antalya city, but not enough to explore the wider region.
If Antalya is one stop on a longer Türkiye itinerary, a carefully planned 48-hour visit can still be worthwhile. You will have time for the old town, a beach or waterfall, and a memorable evening by the harbor.
A Realistic Two-Day Antalya Itinerary
Day 1: Kaleiçi and the historic center
Enter Kaleiçi through Hadrian’s Gate and explore the old town on foot. Walk down toward the historic marina, see the Ottoman-era houses and continue to Karaalioğlu Park for coastal views. Have dinner in Kaleiçi, but avoid scheduling every hour—the narrow streets are best enjoyed slowly.
Day 2: Choose the beach or a nearby historical site
Spend the morning at Konyaaltı Beach and visit Antalya Museum during the hotter part of the day. Alternatively, take a half-day trip to Perge, one of the closest major ancient cities to central Antalya, and finish the afternoon around Lara or the Lower Düden Waterfall.
The official GoTürkiye guide also presents Antalya as a viable 48-hour destination, but its suggested pace is energetic. In real life, summer heat, traffic and hotel check-in can make two full sightseeing days feel considerably shorter.
Two days work best if you stay centrally, arrive early and do not attempt to include Side, Kaş, Alanya or several archaeological sites.
Are Three Days Enough for Antalya?
Three full days are enough for Antalya’s main highlights. This is the minimum stay I would recommend to a first-time visitor who wants more than a brief stopover.
With three days, you can enjoy one historical day, one beach-focused day and one excursion without constantly checking the clock.
Suggested Three-Day Antalya Itinerary
Day 1: Kaleiçi, Hadrian’s Gate and the old harbor
Walk through the historic center, visit the marina and stay for sunset. If you enjoy museums, add the Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum or save Antalya Museum for the following day.
Day 2: Konyaaltı, Antalya Museum and the city coastline
Start at Konyaaltı Beach before the strongest midday heat. Continue to Antalya Museum, then return to the coast for an easy evening. Travelers who prefer sand may choose Lara instead.
Day 3: Perge and Düden, or Termessos
Perge is one of the easiest major ancient sites to combine with the city. You can pair it with the Lower Düden Waterfall or Lara if your transport is arranged efficiently.
Termessos offers a very different experience. It sits within a mountainous national park and requires uphill walking from the parking area. Give it most of a day, wear suitable shoes and do not treat it as a quick roadside stop.
Three days provide a satisfying introduction, but you will still need to make choices. You probably cannot enjoy both major beaches, several ancient cities, a boat trip and a full resort day without rushing.
Why Four or Five Days Is Best for Most Visitors
For a first trip, four or five days in Antalya offers the best balance. You can see the city properly while leaving space for the moments that make a Mediterranean holiday enjoyable: a slow breakfast, an unplanned swim or an evening meal that lasts longer than expected.
It also protects your itinerary from common disruptions. A late flight, very hot afternoon, windy boat-trip day or slower transfer no longer ruins half the holiday.
A Balanced Five-Day Antalya Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Kaleiçi
Check in, walk through Hadrian’s Gate and explore Kaleiçi at a relaxed pace. Follow the lanes down to the marina and end the day with dinner in or around the old town.
Day 2: Konyaaltı and Antalya Museum
Swim at Konyaaltı in the morning. Visit Antalya Museum when the day becomes hotter, then walk along the waterfront or spend the evening in a local restaurant away from the busiest tourist streets.
Day 3: Perge and Aspendos
Visit Perge and Aspendos on the same eastern route. Perge is known for its monumental Roman urban remains, while Aspendos contains one of the best-preserved Roman theaters in the Mediterranean world.
This is easiest with a tour, rental car or private driver. Trying to improvise several transport connections can consume much of the day.
Day 4: Lara and the Lower Düden Waterfall
See the waterfall where the Düden River drops from the cliffs into the Mediterranean. Continue to Lara for a beach afternoon, or take a short coastal boat trip if weather and sea conditions are suitable.
Day 5: Choose the Experience You Missed
Use your final full day for Termessos, a relaxed beach day, a boat excursion, the Antalya Aquarium, a traditional Turkish breakfast or more time in the old town.
This flexible final day is what makes a five-day trip feel like a holiday rather than a checklist.
Is One Week Too Long in Antalya?
No. Seven days in Antalya is not too long, especially if you enjoy a mixture of beaches, history, food and day trips.
A week allows you to keep central Antalya as your base while exploring in two or three directions. You could spend four days on city sights and nearby attractions, then use the remaining days for places such as Phaselis, Kemer, Side or Aspendos.
The mistake is assuming you must book an excursion every day. Antalya’s summer climate makes a slower rhythm sensible. Alternate demanding archaeological visits with beach or pool days.
A Comfortable Seven-Day Antalya Plan
Day 1: Arrival and an easy Kaleiçi evening
Day 2: Kaleiçi, the marina and Karaalioğlu Park
Day 3: Konyaaltı Beach and Antalya Museum
Day 4: Perge and Aspendos
Day 5: Lara and the Lower Düden Waterfall
Day 6: Phaselis and the Kemer coastline
Day 7: Free beach day, boat trip or Termessos
Phaselis is particularly suitable for travelers who want history and swimming on the same day. The ancient port city is surrounded by pine forest and small bays, making it feel very different from the urban attractions of central Antalya.
A full week is also a good choice for families. Children may not enjoy back-to-back ruins, long drives and late dinners, so having flexible days makes the trip easier for everyone.
How Many Days for an All-Inclusive Antalya Holiday?
For a resort-focused holiday, five to seven nights usually works well. This gives you time to enjoy the facilities you paid for while still leaving one or two days for Antalya beyond the hotel.
If you book only three nights at a large resort, arrival and departure can consume a significant part of the stay. You may feel pressured to choose between the beach, pools, restaurants and an excursion.
With a week, you can spend several uninterrupted days at the resort and still visit Kaleiçi or an ancient city.
Check the exact hotel location before booking. Resorts advertised under Antalya may actually be in Kundu, Belek, Side, Kemer or Alanya. A day trip to Kaleiçi from each of these places requires a different amount of travel time.
How Many Days for Antalya Without a Car?
If you stay in central Antalya, three to five days without a car is easy to manage. Trams, buses and taxis cover the main urban areas, while organized tours serve popular archaeological sites.
A car becomes more useful when you want to:
Visit several ancient cities independently
Explore quiet beaches and mountain areas
Move between distant coastal towns
Stay outside the main public transport network
However, a rental car is not automatically faster inside the city. Traffic, limited old-town access and parking can create extra work. For a short trip focused on Kaleiçi, Konyaaltı, Lara and Düden, public transport plus occasional taxis may be simpler.
Travelers without a car should consider adding an extra day. A five-day schedule without a car can feel more comfortable than forcing the same plans into three days with multiple transfers.
How Many Days for Antalya with Children?
Families should plan at least five days, or seven days for a genuinely relaxed trip.
Young children often need a slower schedule in hot weather. Beaches, archaeological sites and long transfers are tiring when combined on the same day. Plan one major activity each day and treat anything else as optional.
A family-friendly week might include:
Two beach or pool days
One old-town and harbor day
One museum or aquarium day
One waterfall excursion
One carefully selected ancient city
One completely flexible day
Konyaaltı is pebbled and can deepen quickly in places, while Lara is generally sandier. Whichever beach you choose, follow local flags and lifeguard guidance.
How Long Do You Need for the Wider Antalya Coast?
If your dream trip includes Kaş, Olympos, Kemer, Side and Alanya, you are no longer planning a short Antalya city break. You are planning a Turkish Riviera road trip.
Allow 10 to 14 days for a meaningful journey along the wider coast. Even then, choose a sensible direction instead of zigzagging across the province.
Western Antalya Route: 7–10 Days
A western itinerary might include:
Antalya city
Kemer or Phaselis
Çıralı and Olympos
Demre and Myra
Kaş and Kekova
This route combines pine-covered coastline, ancient Lycian sites and smaller seaside towns. Kaş alone can justify several nights if you want a boat trip, diving or a slower coastal stay.
Eastern Antalya Route: 6–9 Days
An eastern itinerary might include:
Antalya city
Perge and Aspendos
Belek
Side and Manavgat
Alanya
Side’s ancient ruins and coastal center deserve more than a hurried photo stop. Alanya is far enough from central Antalya to work better as an overnight base than as the final item in an overloaded city day.
Trying to combine both the far western and far eastern coasts in one week produces a trip dominated by driving.
Does the Best Trip Length Change by Season?
Yes. The same itinerary feels very different in April and August.
Spring
Spring is excellent for mixing ruins, nature and city walks. Four or five active days are easier because daytime conditions are usually more comfortable than in peak summer. The sea may still feel cool early in the season.
Summer
In July and August, allow extra time. Heat and humidity can make midday sightseeing exhausting, so a five-day plan is often better than squeezing everything into three days. Start archaeological sites early, rest during the hottest hours and return outside later.
Autumn
Early autumn is one of the best periods for a balanced Antalya trip. The sea is often still inviting, while cultural sightseeing gradually becomes more comfortable. Five to seven days can combine both sides of the destination.
Winter
Winter suits travelers interested in the old town, museums, food and archaeological sites rather than a guaranteed beach holiday. Rain and wind may affect outdoor plans, so leave flexibility in a short itinerary.
What Should You Skip on a Short Trip?
If you have only two or three days, do not try to prove that you have “seen Antalya” by covering the whole province.
Skip any plan that combines several distant places simply because they share the Antalya name. Kaş and Alanya should not be squeezed into the same short city itinerary. Termessos and a large eastern route should not be forced into one day. A boat trip should not be booked immediately before a flight.
For a short visit, focus on:
One old-town day
One beach or museum day
One nearby excursion
You will remember three good experiences more clearly than eight rushed stops.
Where Should You Stay for a Short Antalya Trip?
For two or three days, location matters more than resort size.
Choose Kaleiçi or the central Muratpaşa area if history, restaurants and evening walks are your priorities. Choose Konyaaltı if you want easy access to a long beach while staying connected to the city. Choose Lara if you prefer the eastern side, sandy beach access and proximity to the airport.
For a short city break, think carefully before choosing a distant all-inclusive resort. A lower room price may be cancelled out by long transfers and limited sightseeing time.
For a seven-night relaxation holiday, the calculation changes: a resort in Kundu, Belek, Kemer or Side may be exactly what you want.
The Simple Answer
If you are still deciding, use this rule:
Choose 2 days for a fast city stop.
Choose 3 days for Antalya’s essential highlights.
Choose 4–5 days for the best first-time experience.
Choose 7 days for beaches, history and several excursions.
Choose 10–14 days for a road trip across the wider Antalya coast.
For most travelers visiting Antalya for the first time, five days is the safest recommendation. It is long enough to understand the city and short enough to combine with another destination in Türkiye.
More importantly, it gives you time to experience Antalya as it should be experienced: not only through ruins and viewpoints, but through unhurried swims, shaded lunches and evenings when the Mediterranean air finally begins to cool.
