Güzeldere Waterfall Nature Park: A 120-Metre Cascade Among the Trees
Güzeldere Waterfall Nature Park: A 120-Meter Cascade Hidden in the Forest
October 20, 2026
Reading a waterfall’s height is one thing. Following the water’s entire journey with your eyes is another. At Güzeldere, looking up towards the top gives 120 metres a different meaning. Water tumbles over the rocks beside towering trees, creating a landscape that makes you suddenly aware of your own size.
Located in Güzeldere village in Düzce’s Gölyaka district, the waterfall lies on Bıçkı Stream. The surrounding forest is as much a part of the experience as the falling water. Beech and hornbeam trees frame the slope, while white water, dark rock and overlapping leaves draw your attention from one detail to the next.
Following the Water Down the Rocks
To appreciate Güzeldere, let your eyes travel beyond the top of the falls or the point where the water reaches the bottom. Follow what happens in between. The flow divides around the contours of the rock, separates into narrow threads and gathers again farther down.
What appears in photographs as a single white ribbon is full of smaller movements. Water strikes a ledge, foam scatters, and different sections of the cascade take on their own shapes.
The most memorable moment may come after you have taken your photograph. Put your phone away and watch for a little longer. Details that escaped your first glance begin to emerge.
The Forest Around the Falls
Alongside beech and hornbeam, the park’s vegetation includes chestnut, linden, maple and several conifer species. Ferns and woodland plants bring your attention down from the treetops to the forest floor.
Give the walk itself some time. Notice the tree trunks, the places where branches overlap and the glimpses of the hillside between the leaves. These quieter details reward a slower pace.
Güzeldere was designated a nature park on 11 July 2011. Its walking routes, picnic areas and woodland rest spots make it a place where you can spend time beyond the waterfall viewpoint.
How to Spend Your Time at Güzeldere
Allow room for a walk and a break instead of squeezing the waterfall between several hurried stops. If you have time after seeing the falls, pause in one of the designated rest areas before continuing your journey.
For photographs, look around before choosing your frame. A close view of water meeting rock or a glimpse of the cascade between the trees can be just as compelling as an image of the entire waterfall. Stay on the visitor route while finding your angle.
You do not need to fill every minute here. Watching one section of the falls for a while can reveal more than repeatedly moving on in search of another photograph.
What to Know Before You Go
Güzeldere Waterfall Nature Park is approximately 11 kilometres from central Gölyaka. You can reach it by following the signs towards Güzeldere from the district centre.
Wear shoes with a good grip and take care on damp or wet surfaces. Set a walking pace that suits everyone in your group. Check admission charges, visiting hours and access conditions before setting out, as these may change.
When you leave Güzeldere, the height of the waterfall may be only part of what you remember. The tall trees around it, the shifting water against the rocks and the steady sound filling the pauses in conversation all become part of the scene.
