A small cabin appears between the trees. Branches stretch above its roof, and the path outside continues into the woods. Seeing a place like this, you begin to picture what it would feel like to wake up here.
Eriklitepe Nature Park, in Kocaeli’s Gölcük district, brings together dense beech woodland and cabins tucked among the trees. Reached via İrşadiye, it offers somewhere to walk, spend a day outdoors or stay overnight and leave time for a morning in the forest.
Its appeal becomes clearer as you notice the details: light passing between beech trunks, leaves gathered beside the path and trees surrounding the cabins. There are plenty of reasons to slow your steps.
The Beech Forest That Makes Eriklitepe Special
Declared a nature park in 2011, Eriklitepe covers 63.30 hectares. Its defining feature is its dense beech woodland.
Tall trunks rise one behind another, creating depth throughout the forest. You can make out the bark of the nearest tree while those further away disappear among branches and leaves. Light filters through the canopy, leaving small patches of brightness on the ground.
Chestnut, hornbeam and oak also grow here, alongside rhododendrons and ferns. Look beyond the path ahead and you begin to notice the variety of textures within the greenery.
This layered woodland is part of what makes Eriklitepe so appealing in photographs. A path, a line of tree trunks and a small cabin glimpsed between them can hold your attention far longer than expected.
A Night Among the Trees: Eriklitepe’s Forest Cabins
The park has 15 cabins, offering visitors the chance to turn a day trip into an overnight forest stay.
After a walk, you can settle in among the trees rather than begin the journey home. There is time to linger after dinner, and another woodland walk is close at hand the following morning.
The surroundings change with the seasons. Fallen leaves cover the ground in autumn, while winter snowfall turns the setting white. Photographs of the same cabin in different seasons can look remarkably different.
Advance reservations are required for accommodation. Check the rate for your dates, cabin capacity and included services before booking. The operator also applies a family-only accommodation policy, which should be confirmed when making your reservation.
Leave Time for a Woodland Walk
Eriklitepe has a walking trail of approximately two kilometres, giving visitors an opportunity to explore the woodland more closely.
Allow time to stop along the way. A view opening between trees, plants beside the path or a bend in the trail may catch your attention. With children, looking together at leaf shapes, tree bark and small details on the forest floor can become part of the outing.
After rain, the ground can be wet and muddy. Comfortable footwear with a good grip will make the walk more enjoyable.
Autumn Leaves and Snow-Covered Cabins
Eriklitepe is especially appealing to visitors who enjoy watching the seasons change in a forest.
In autumn, the beech leaves change colour and transform the woodland floor. Yellows overhead and brown leaves underfoot bring warm tones to the cabins’ surroundings. Give the forest paths as much attention as the buildings themselves; they offer plenty of reasons to pause with your camera.
When winter snow settles, roofs, branches and paths become part of the same white landscape. If you are coming for snow, check current snow cover and road conditions before travelling. The weather in the settlements below does not necessarily reflect conditions in the forest.
Spring and summer offer their own pleasures: walking beneath leafy branches, sitting outside and spending an unhurried day among the trees.
A Place for a Day Trip, Too
You do not have to stay overnight to enjoy Eriklitepe. The park has picnic areas, a children’s playground, a restaurant, parking, toilets and a prayer room, making a longer visit with family or friends practical.
Take a walk, stop for a meal, spend time at the playground and return to the woodland afterwards. There is also an adventure course; check whether it is operating and ask about participation requirements before planning around it.
If you are bringing a picnic, remember that lighting fires directly on the ground is prohibited. Follow the operator’s current instructions for designated fire and barbecue facilities. Pets are not accepted, which is another detail to consider before travelling.
Where Is Eriklitepe Nature Park?
Eriklitepe is in Gölcük, Kocaeli, on the road continuing south through İrşadiye neighbourhood. The park lies approximately six kilometres beyond İrşadiye.
Admission and accommodation are separate services, so check current prices and conditions before your visit. For a winter trip, prepare for the return journey as carefully as the drive there.
You might arrive planning only a short walk. Once you see the cabins among the trees, it is easy to imagine saying, “Next time, let’s stay the night.”
