Düzce’s Hidden Paradise: What Lies Beyond the Coast at Aktaş Waterfall?

WhatsApp

Located in Akçakoca, Aktaş Waterfall is a hidden paradise nestled inside lush hazelnut orchards. Cascading from a height of 50 meters, this scenic natural wonder offers rugged trekking paths and pristine relaxation spots for hikers.

Spend your entire visit to Akçakoca beside the sea, and you may miss another beautiful side of the district. Beyond the coast, along village roads leading inland, a valley offers a different soundtrack: Aktaş Waterfall.

Set in the inland countryside of a district known for its hazelnut orchards, this natural attraction gives your trip a fresh direction. Leave the sea behind, walk among the trees and follow the stream towards falling water. It is a chance to experience two very different landscapes without leaving Akçakoca.

Where Is Aktaş Waterfall?

Aktaş Waterfall lies within Aktaş village in the Akçakoca district of Düzce. It is approximately 11 kilometres from central Akçakoca and 55 kilometres from central Düzce.

If you are staying in Akçakoca, it can make a worthwhile addition to your coastal itinerary. However, the distance on the map does not tell you how much walking to expect. Your starting point and chosen route will determine how much time you need.

Falling Water Framed by Greenery

The waterfall drops from approximately 50 metres, surrounded by dense vegetation. Its appeal comes from the whole scene: the rock face, the changing flow and the greenery around it.

Watch one section for a while. What first appears as a single sweep of water begins to reveal smaller movements. The flow scatters where it meets the rock, white threads stretch downwards, and foam continually changes shape. A photograph freezes what keeps moving in front of you.

“Hidden paradise” feels like a fitting description for somewhere that takes a little curiosity to discover. Aktaş is a reason to turn inland and explore beyond the coastline for which Akçakoca is better known.

A Route for Those Who Enjoy Walking

Aktaş is also a destination for nature walks. One established route begins at the Göktepe village junction on the Akçakoca ring road and continues through Aktaş Valley to the waterfall. Approximately 10 kilometres long, it mostly follows the stream and is described as moderately difficult.

That distance does not mean every visitor must complete a ten-kilometre walk. The longer hiking route should be distinguished from other ways of approaching the waterfall. Confirm your starting point and current access arrangements before setting out.

If you choose the hike, give the journey your attention as well as the destination. Openings between the trees, changing views beside the stream and smaller details along the trail are all part of the experience.

How to Include It in Your Akçakoca Trip

You could dedicate part of your visit to a walk at Aktaş, then return to central Akçakoca for time beside the sea. Together, the two stops introduce you to the district’s wooded interior and its coastline.

Allow a more generous schedule if you plan to complete the longer trail. Account for breaks, weather conditions and your return journey. Bring drinking water and wear shoes with a good grip. Take care around wet stones beside the stream, and stay on safe routes when taking photographs.

Check current entry arrangements and access conditions before your visit.

Make time for Aktaş if you want to leave Akçakoca with memories beyond the shore. Alongside waves breaking on the coast, you may find yourself remembering water falling through a landscape of trees.
