Boztepe, Ordu: A Black Sea View Worth Sitting Down For
Discover Boztepe in Ordu, where a cable car journey leads to sweeping Black Sea views and an inviting place to pause over Turkish tea.
October 7, 2026
From the waterfront, Ordu feels close and busy: streets, buildings and the sea beside you. From Boztepe, those same details become part of a much wider picture. The city spreads below, the coastline stretches into the distance, and the Black Sea fills the horizon.
Rising approximately 450 metres above sea level, Boztepe is Ordu’s best-known panoramic viewpoint. You can reach it by road or take the cable car from the waterfront near Atatürk Park.
Give yourself time at the top. This is a place where the simplest plan—a short walk, a photograph and a glass of tea—can be enough.
Seeing Ordu from Above

The main attraction is the relationship between the city and the sea. From Boztepe, you can appreciate how Ordu occupies the coastal strip and rises towards the surrounding hills.
Start by finding the waterfront you have just left. Follow its curve with your eyes, then look towards the neighbourhoods inland. Recognising a street or a building makes the panorama feel personal rather than distant.
Clear weather gives the broadest view. Low cloud may conceal parts of the coastline, so check visibility before travelling up if photography is your priority.
Once you have taken the picture, stay a little longer. Watching the light shift across the water is part of the pleasure.
The Cable Car Journey

The Boztepe cable car connects Altınordu’s waterfront with the hilltop, making the ascent part of the visit. As the cabin rises, the view gradually opens out behind you.
It is a useful option if you want to reach the viewpoint without driving uphill. Before buying a ticket, confirm whether it covers one journey or a return trip, and check the final downhill departure.
Operating arrangements can change for maintenance or weather. Check the day’s service rather than relying on an old timetable; the line underwent scheduled maintenance in 2026.
If heights make you uncomfortable, consider travelling by road. You can still enjoy the panorama from a position where you feel at ease.
A Tea Break with a View

You do not need to turn Boztepe into a packed afternoon. Find somewhere with a view you like, check the menu prices and order something simple.
A hot glass of Turkish tea gives you a reason to sit still. Let the first few minutes pass without looking at your phone. Notice the coastline, the changing colour of the water and how much smaller familiar places appear from above.
For a family visit, this slower approach can work particularly well. Leave room for a break instead of expecting everyone to spend the whole time walking or posing for photographs.
Daylight or Evening?

For a first visit, daylight makes it easier to understand the landscape. You can pick out the waterfront and see how the city fits between the hills and sea.
Later in the day, the atmosphere changes as natural light fades and the city lights become more noticeable. If you want to stay into the evening, plan your return before settling in. Check the cable car’s last departure or arrange road transport.
Bring a light layer, particularly if you expect to spend time outside after dark. Comfort makes it much easier to linger and enjoy the view.
Getting There and Planning Your Time
Boztepe is accessible by road as well as cable car. Published directions identify approaches through Selimiye neighbourhood and the Oğmaca–Yaraşlı road connection. Use current navigation and local signage when driving.
As a planning suggestion, allow 1–2 hours, including time for the journey, the viewpoint and a drink. Add flexibility for queues if you choose the cable car.
The hilltop is not a single museum with one admission arrangement. Cable car tickets, parking and purchases at individual businesses are separate costs. Confirm those relevant to your visit.
Walking Note — Physical Effort: 1/5
An editorial estimate when arriving by cable car or vehicle and staying near the main viewing area. Longer walks and sloping approaches require more effort. Confirm boarding assistance and the route to your chosen viewpoint if you have limited mobility.
