A stone path leads into the forest ahead of you. It passes between trees and crosses the water on wooden bridges. As you walk, curiosity about the waterfall draws you further along. At Arapdüzü, the journey is as inviting as the place waiting at its end.
Located in Güneysu district, Rize, Arapdüzü Nature Park and Picnic Area combines a woodland walk with waterfall views and an outdoor break. Even if you arrive planning only a picnic, the path disappearing between the trees may persuade you to explore.
From Stone Paths to Wooden Bridges
The walking route to Arapdüzü Waterfall is 800 metres long, with slate-paved sections and wooden suspension bridges along the way.
The pleasure comes from moving through the woodland. Leaves grow close to the path, branches overlap overhead, and plants gather beside the water. Crossing a bridge changes your perspective; the stretch you have just walked appears behind you through the trees.
Take your time. A bridge framed by greenery, plants edging the stones or light passing between branches gives you plenty of reasons to pause.
A short distance does not guarantee easy footing in every condition. Stone and wooden surfaces can become slippery after rain, so adjust your pace to the ground beneath you.
Arapdüzü Waterfall at the End of the Walk
The trail brings you to viewing areas overlooking Arapdüzü Waterfall. Your walk through the trees becomes a chance to stop beside the falling water.
Part of the waterfall’s appeal is its woodland setting. Your attention moves from the flow to the rocks and surrounding plants. The moving water brings life to the green landscape.
Viewing terraces offer different perspectives and places to catch your breath. After taking photographs, stay a little longer. Watching the water completes the pleasure of the walk.
The flow varies with rainfall, so the waterfall you encounter may look different from photographs taken in another season.
A Route That Keeps Catching Your Eye
You do not have to wait until the waterfall to enjoy the scenery. Wooden bridges, stone paths and layers of woodland create different views throughout the walk.
The lines of a bridge lead your eyes towards the greenery beyond. Tree trunks behind nearby leaves give the scene depth. Where the path bends, you begin wondering what lies around the corner.
That gradual unfolding is part of Arapdüzü’s charm. Each section of the walk reveals something new.
When stopping for photographs, leave room for others to pass and stay within the railings. Keep an eye on wet surfaces while looking for your next picture.
Combine the Walk with a Picnic
Sheltered picnic tables and seating areas make it possible to turn the visit into a longer outdoor outing.
You can walk first and rest afterwards, or enjoy a short break before heading towards the waterfall. Sharing food you have brought with you can become one of the nicest parts of a visit with family or friends.
Bring your own food and refreshments. Water, toilet and prayer facilities are listed at the site; checking their current availability before travelling is sensible.
Take all rubbish and food scraps away with you. Follow the rules in force on the day regarding fires and barbecues.
Where Is Arapdüzü?
Arapdüzü lies approximately 15 kilometres from Güneysu town centre, at an elevation of 1,080 metres. Access is via Güneysu, in Rize province.
Check the weather and the condition of the final approach road before setting out. In wet weather, consider conditions on the walking trail as well as the drive.
Bring footwear with good grip, a raincoat and an extra layer. With children, stay together on bridges and near the water.
The waterfall may bring you here, but other images can stay with you afterwards: the stone path curving into the woods and the anticipation of what you would see beyond the next wooden bridge.
