A visit to Galata Tower is supposed to be about the views over Istanbul. But for one tourist, a ticket purchase reportedly turned into an unexpected payment dispute. In a post shared online in November 2025, a visitor described buying two tickets, expecting to pay €30 per person. According to their account, they were also given audio-guide headphones and told that they were included. The surprise came later, when the tourist noticed a card charge exceeding $90. They claimed they had said they did not want the headphones and subsequently disputed the payment, receiving a refund. This is the visitor’s account, and we have not independently verified every detail. It does not establish that the tower routinely overcharges visitors or that the extra charge was intentional. However, it raises a reasonable question: Are visitors always told clearly which services are included in the ticket price and which cost extra? How Can You Avoid a Similar Surprise? Before paying at a major attraction in Istanbul, confirm the total price for everyone in your group. Ask whether audio guides, headphones or other extras are optional and whether they carry a separate charge. If you pay by card, check the amount shown on the payment terminal and keep your receipt. If a charge appears incorrect, save the receipt and payment record and contact the merchant or your card provider to dispute it. One visitor’s experience does not tell the whole story. But clear pricing matters, and other well-documented accounts can help reveal whether a problem is isolated or part of a wider pattern. Have You Had a Similar Experience?
